Essential Scent Oils (For Use with Aromatherapy Winelights)
Yes, you may use our Vintage Scents or anyone else's essential oils in any Oil
Lamp or Winelight, but you will not smell anything.
When you burn a
scented candle (or the tealight scent burners), the aroma comes from the pool of
melted wax or scent oil that surrounds the wick of the candle, not the burning
oil itself. The melted wax and/or the scented oil is open to the
air.
With a Winelight or with any oil lamp the scented oil is trapped
inside a container, in our case a bottle, with an oil lamp it is trapped inside
the fuel reservoir. The only way for the aroma to get out of the bottle or
container is through the flame. As it does come through the flame and burns,
the flame destroys the aroma and you smell nothing. The oil inside the bottle
will smell great, it just can't get out of the bottle or lamp.
That is
why we invented the Aroma-Therapy Winelight. You burn the lamp oil in the
bottle and the flame heats the ceramic or pewter Winelight. As the Winelight
does get completely heated it gives off an aroma from the Vintage Scent in the
moat around the flame (just like a burning candle). We have found that if you
put a small amount of water in the moat, 1 tsp, then put 4 or 5 drops of Vintage
Scents on the water you will have the aroma for about 4 1/2 hours. Our Vintage
Scents are the strongest we could find, other makes will last about 3 hours. Our scent oils may also be used in candle making and for burning in any scent defusers.
